Oisin was an expert on the Ancients and is seen in Skulduggery Pleasant as an Echo Stone imprint.

History[]

While it is unclear when Oisin was alive, it is known that he died before English became a widely-spoken language in Ireland. He claims he was the most knowledgeable of his colleagues, but when they voted on who would imprint their identity on the Echo Stone, they did not choose him as they thought he would talk to much and waste valuable time. He eventually stole the stone and imprinted his own memories on it. The effect remained permanent, as they couldn't erase his imprint from the stone.

Biography[]

Skulduggery Pleasant[]

Skulduggery and Stephanie find the Echo Stone with Oisin in a puzzle box in Ghastly’s family’s chamber in the Vault. Oisin keep getting distracted during their talk, wanting to know how the world has changed and the details of how Skulduggery became a skeleton, but before his Echo Stone dies, he tells them that the black crystal in the Sceptre may possible be able to be destroyed from within, and that the crystal rang whenever the Faceless Ones’ enemies were near, except for the Ancients. When told the Sceptre has been unnearthed, Oisin claims a wise man would return it to whereit was or somewhere similar. This leads Skulduggery to believe the Sceptre is located in a network of caves beneath Gordon’s house.

Dead or Alive[]

After visiting the future for the third time, and seeking knowledge on the 'Eye of Rhast' mentioned by China Sorrows in the future, Skulduggery borrows the Echo Stone with Oisin's consciousness from Uther Peccant who inherited it from Ghastly Bespoke upon his death. Peccant mentions that the Stone is damaged as it wasn't supposed to hold onto Oisin's memories indefinitely. Peccant leaves them to use the stone.

Upon activating the stone Oisin recognises Skulduggery immediately, but takes a moment to recognise Valkyrie as to him they had only met hours ago. Once again Oisin talks more than neccessary, mentioning that he has spoken with Peccant three times since their last meeting. Oisin tells them that while he was the expert on the Ancients, not the Faceless Ones, he believed that to understand the subject of ones studies, you must understand their enemies. He 'borrowed' the Book of Shalgoth, read it and returned it. He tells them the history of the Eye of Rhast before telling them that the Eye now had a different name, the Crystal of the Saints.

Trivia[]

  • Oisin never travelled while alive due to his distrust of boats.
